By now you should have a reasonable overview of how a blogging business starts and runs. This brief series has only touched on the major points and of course each blogging enterprise is unique and will face its own challenges.
The last topic I want to touch on in this particular series is the focus of a blog. Many bloggers think that because they live in a particular part of the world that it will only be those people who read it, likewise others believe that because the internet is global everyone will read it and find it interesting.
Without an active decision a blogger can miss some real opportunities. I am always surprised at the opportunities missed at the local level by bloggers. Imagine if you will a blogger that decides they want to break into the pet care niche. Now is pet care the same the world over, are all pet care products available in every country - I don’t know but I am going to hazard a guess that they are not. So why not make your blog local, not just to your country but to your part of the country. This includes everything that we discussed in the previous posts, domain name - instead of just petcare.com, why not londonpetcare.com, then as you want to branch out, manchesterpetcare.com, birminghampetcare.com etc. This in turn opens doors for local advertising and sponsorship as well as focused affiliate marketing opportunities.
Sometimes it pays to think global and act local.
